昇降するディスプレイと、そこに映し出される落石の映像から成る映像インスタレーション作品。本作は、映像が生み出す「イメージの空間」、それを鑑賞する「実空間」、そしてそれらを繋ぐ「仮想空間」という3つの空間性を扱っている。

映画において、フレームの外で起こる出来事や空間は「オフ・スクリーン」と呼ばれ、音や人物の反応などを通じてその存在が示唆される。しかし、コンピューターのマルチウィンドウによる映像体験が常態化した現代においては、映像コンテンツ自体をひとつのオブジェクトとしてオフ・スクリーンに認識することも可能となる。

本作では、動くディスプレイを目で追うという身体的行為と、それに応える映像との相互的な体験を通じて、「落石」という一回的な出来事を喚起させるが、ディスプレイの動きと映像の周期のずれによって生じる視覚的な同期／非同期が、私たちの認識の中で対象の所在を常に変動させることになる。

石は、いったいどこを落下しているのだろうか。

This video installation consists of an ascending and descending display and displayed images of falling rocks. The work explores three spaces: “image space”, which is created by the video; “physical space”, where the video is viewed; and “virtual space”, which connects them.

In cinema, events and spaces that occur outside the frame are referred to as “off-screen”, their presence suggested through sound, character reactions, and other cues. However, In an era where multi-window video experiences on computers have become the norm, it is now possible to conceive of video content itself as an off-screen object.

This work evokes the unicity of “falling rocks” through the physical act of following the moving display with one’s gaze and the corresponding video experience. However, the discrepancy between the motion of the display and the cycle of the video generates a visual synchronization/desynchronization, causing the perceived position of the subject to continuously shift within our perception.

Where, indeed, is the rock falling?
